Interdisciplinary Barriers in Nursing
Evidence-based interdisciplinary healthcare practices can greatly improve the healthcare outcomes of patients in hospitals and other medical facilities. Interdisciplinary healthcare approaches require the collaboration of various disciplines to deliver patient care (Liu, 2021). Nurses are an integral part of multidisciplinary healthcare practices and the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care. The most effective interdisciplinary teams encourage nurses and healthcare professionals from other disciplines to share responsibilities to enhance patient care outcomes. Evidence-based interdisciplinary practices also use research information to promote role interdependence among healthcare teams while respecting the autonomy and experience of the individual members. The interview primarily focused on the barriers to interdisciplinary healthcare practices.
The major interdisciplinary barriers identified in the interview are a lack of communication and teamwork. Previous studies reveal that effective communication and teamwork among healthcare professionals can significantly improve the quality of healthcare delivery (Hassan, 2018). Communication can significantly be used to avoid medical errors and accidents in hospitals and effectively deliver medication. A lack of communication among various healthcare providers puts the patients’ health at risk because important information about medication and treatment plans may be omitted. Communication encourages healthcare professionals to share healthcare information, make meaningful decisions, and use evidence-based practices to deliver care. In...
