Scientific Project: Data Update and Reflection
Hypothesis
* Engaging in emotional eating (independent variable) will increase my emotional stress (dependent variable) as measured by the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS).
Reflection
The data collection process proceeded smoothly both in the pre-test and post-test processes. The pre-test period was the easiest because I only maintained my ketogenic diet that mainly included sea food, low-carb vegetables, and avocados. What I changed for the purpose of the experiment was the consumption patterns of the foods. I had to establish a balance to avoid hurting my body. Therefore, while my normal diet involved consumption of a full avocado, in the pre-test, I reduced the amount consumed by half. My body coped well with the reduced diet to an extent that was enough for me to take the measurements. The main challenge arose during the adjustment process because sometimes I felt as though I was not satisfied as my body appeared to be craving for more of the specific foods that I often used.
I dealt with the urge to eat more food by consuming smaller quantities of my ketogenic food to balance between my body’s desires and the experiment’s targets. For example, in my normal routine, I would consume a half of an avocado instead of a whole fruit. However, in the new arrangement, I could consume a quarter at one point and then consume another quarter later whenever I felt the hunger. This consumption pattern helped reduce the cravings that I had about the fruit. My condition also meant that I felt a little more anxious about some minor occurrences but the experience was not critical to interfere with my normal functioning. After the first test, I felt as though I should go back to my normal diet. However, I felt that I needed to persevere to obtain the best results.
During the second month, when I resumed my normal meals, I began feeling better as my body got what it wanted. The month was smoother and I ate a more balanced diet, which included plenty of my ketogenic diet. I felt healthier and happier in the second month, which helped provide a clear difference between the two forms of diet. Therefore, the overall test was an excellent experience as...
