Personal Statement
Personal values form the foundation of an individual’s ethics. They are the things that enable a person to differentiate right or wrong, desirable or undesirable, and bad or good. In other words, personal values contribute to the decisions that one makes in his or her career. They act as a moral compass and guides people’s behaviors and beliefs. For example, if a person is compassionate, it becomes easy for one to show or feel sympathy for others. As a healthcare leader, personal values, ethics, and professional goals align with the mission and vision statement of the organization I intend to work.
My primary personal ethics and values include respect, integrity, communication, empathy, accountability, honesty, dependability, commitment, authenticity, compassion, kindness, stewardship, optimism, and open-mindedness. They make me the best healthcare leader since I can interact with my colleagues and patients well, which enables me to create and maintain a trusting relationship. HCA Healthcare is the organization that I would like to work for, and my ethics and values align with its mission statement. In particular, its mission is “above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life” (HCA Healthcare, n.d.). A kind, compassionate, authentic, communicative, optimistic, honest, and accountable healthcare leader ensures that all patients’ needs are met entirely. I significantly value human life and do everything possible to improve medical services and save more lives.
HCA Healthcare’s vision statement is “to be our community’s trusted partner in healthcare, where the patient’s point of view is the foundation of care” (HCA Healthcare, n.d.).
