What inspires and motivates you to teach?
Many things inspire me to enter the teaching profession. The most important motivator is the opportunity to interact with and empower culturally diverse learners in the classroom setting. I want to be the type of teacher happy to embrace, guide, and support students from diverse backgrounds and with different learning abilities. I am inspired and motivated by the need to be a guide and a reference to my culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) students while avoiding being a theoretician devoid of practical resources. I ensure my syllabus incorporates content and practical implications to stimulate my learners’ cultural competency. I’m also committed to setting an example to my learners, both as a professional and as a person, and interacting with them as much as possible to enhance their confidence and learning outcomes. Connecting with children with autism and their families makes a difference in society, thus providing an avenue to contribute to the sustainable development of communities. I am also inspired by the need to constantly contact my learners as they enter professional life, making sure to be open to consultations and guiding them on their progress. In addition, I’m motivated by the opportunity to impact the lives of children with autism positively. By employing teaching competencies to play and express themselves, I can help children with autism inspire themselves and develop a sense of accomplishment.
How will you teach? What methods or philosophy guide your instruction?
I will use the culturally responsive teaching (CRT) philosophy to teach CLD learners. I will be intentional in executing and supplementing multicultural education in my classroom. There are many pathways to include multicultural learning in my curriculum and lesson plans. Still, one very important way is to maintain a collection of multicultural literature within my classroom library. More specifically, the library will provide an avenue for learners to explore books discussing diverse topics related to diversity. In particular, one topic that is increasingly rampant in many classrooms is bullying. In order to address this subject, I would set aside time to discuss this disturbing issue in detail and communicate to my learners that my classroom is a non-bullying zone.
