Political fallacies have become common among politicians, both through their speeches and written reports. Such an example that I find the most damaging to the American political system is Ad Hominem. This is among the pettiest and common fallacies known to humanity. It occurs often when the traits of an individual or leader holding a certain leadership position are attacked instead of the merits of their actions and arguments that they make (Dudau, Favotto, Kominis, & Sicilia, 2020). It is mainly against political leaders, although institutions and organizations are sometimes targeted.
The most vivid example in America is President Donald Trump vs. former President Barack Obama. Trump has been on record attacking the traits of Obama rather than the quality of his actions and arguments. Two vivid examples are Trump’s take on Obamacare and its role in the society, and U.S-Iran nuclear relationship.
