I am writing to apply for late withdrawal from my course ____________ 1-6 units. I would like to apologize for any inconvenience that I might cause the institution following my late withdrawal. I would also like to express that I deeply regret the circumstances that led to this situation. Besides being beyond my control, they were uncommon or unusual. My inability to comprehend or understand the course material was beyond my control. I took International Baccalaureate (IB) program in high school and while pursuing the course, communication and even administering of the exams were in English language, which hindered my progressive learning of Ancient Chinese. In other words my involvement in the course made me miss studying of Chinese literature.
Given that Literally Chinese is an old language, it presented many challenges to me as an international student because it is old and has not been updated for modern times. Therefore, the grammar is complicated, making it cumbersome to understand. The technicality of the language made it hard for me to read, given that it has a different vocabulary from modern languages or the ones I have been exposed to. Therefore, I could not conduct private studies because I was an international student and I had to do the translation of the language into English to understand the grammar. I then lost motivation to learn and immensely reduced my class participation
Furthermore, the grammatical forms, sentence patterns, and function words were quite challenging for me. Literary Chinese sentences are longer and more complicated than other languages, and their logical arrangement contains conjunctions and grammatical functions. Consequently, I could not even make out the meaning of the words when I was reading. In addition, literary Chinese vocabulary is significantly polysyllabic compared to spoken mandarin. As an international student, I lack an understanding of Literary Chinese mainly because I am not familiar with Chinese culture and history. Thus, I found it challenging to meet the course's learning outcomes. On the other hand, my grandfather’s sickness and my commitment to the job was taxing because I had to spend most of the time out of school. I also developed mental depression out of worrying over my grandparent’s condition.
