People think of "spinning" when they hear the word public relations. Bernays work can be considered as spinning the truth with a pseudo-event that can be explained in different ways. Advancing a cause that does not aim at solving the underlying issues affecting people in society through the media and other forms is considered a pseudo-event (Kelleher, 2021). The impact of Bernays's event was not persuasive as he claims, and it was not nearly as celebratory.
Bernays's work cannot be considered to be ethical in modern-day society. Recruiting women to march to end the discriminatory taboo for cigarettes and women for publicity for a tobacco company is unethical (Murphree, 2015).
