a) Fast-Fashion company Shein, has become one of the world’s largest fast fashion online marketplaces which generated $15.7 billion in 2021, a 60 percent increase from $9.8 billion in 2020 (Curry, 2022). While the brand is financially successful, it is being accused to foster unconscious consumption and for labour explotation with employees working 75 hours per week (Jones, 2021). – Relevant Pillar:
b) Since January 2022, garment workers in California are protected by the Garment Worker Protection Act, also known as SB62. This bill, requires that garment workers are being paid an hourly wage and not by completed pieces. For years, manufacturers were allowed to pay workers per garment, resulting in a salary of less than $6 per hour, significantly below the minimum wage. Remake hopes the protection act will also be signed by other states. – Relevant Pillar:
c) Luxury brands like Louis Vuitton or Burberry made headlines for destroying its expensive, unsold products, to avoid products being on sale and to maintain the high desirability of the brand. Such action is waisting resources and pollutes the environment through incineration.– Relevant Pillar:
