Pope Francis: A Man of His Word Film Review
In this movie titled Pope Francis – A Man of His Word, Wenders had a one-on-one interview with Francis in various instances. The film is anchored on diverse discussions, including Francis’ footages across the globe meeting with natural disasters’ victims, hospitalized patients, aid workers, children, prisoners, refugees, and many more. This paper critically reviews the significance of the film centered on two critical areas: climate change and poverty as well as homosexuality and women scenes.
In the climate change and poverty scene, Pope Francis makes a clear connection between these two concepts. Pope Francis is the first to take the name of St. Francis of Assisi. Notably, St. Francis of Assisi was chiefly concerned with taking care of God’s creation and the economically disadvantaged in society. Most of his theology was anchored on promoting human brotherhood as well as peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians, particularly during the crusades. The film is significant since it portrays Pope Francis as concerned with an equally inclined set of priorities. He shows his care and concern for the poor in his service as a cardinal and the archbishop of Buenos Aires. As the film shows it, Pope Francis’s inherent respect for the poor motivated his suggestions about responsibility for the ecology. He says that the poor are highly impacted by global warming, and thus our environmental conservation efforts should spring from our obedience to God’s commands to care for His creation.
