There is a problem of commitment in marriages and relationships especially when it comes to young people today. Before that, young people settle down in marriage there are a lot of challenges and not being able to commit is one of them. While being romantically in love is one thing, getting the right partner to settle with for life is another and most people find this journey tiring and frustrating. As it is a common problem to many the subject has been portrayed in many movies and writings as people give their ordeal and accounts of suffering or success in relationships. This paper is going to analyze the movie "Meet the Patels" based on marriage culture and ethnicity. Even though marriage is the main theme of the film, the audience may fail to recognize that Indian roots, ethnicity, and color also play a huge role in the development of the marriage based story.
Film Summary
Meet the Patels follows the life of a 29-year-old Vasant Patel who embarks on a mission to find himself a wife back in his ancestry land (India). The facts depicted about Ravi is that he has broken up with his white girlfriend Audrey, who they have dated for more than two years but has kept it a secret from his Indian family. He is nearly 30 years old and at his age, he is not yet married which according to the film is almost a taboo in the Indian community.
