“The Fighting 69th”
In the "The Fighting 69th," movie it is clear that the intentions of the Americans was not to fight in the World War 11. The movie is set during World War 1 based on what the Father Duffy had experienced. The director has used irony since the intention was for the Americans not to be involved in World War 11 but they are preparing a lot for war. Another deice that the director used in this movie is the hyperbole where Jerry Plunket is overstated. He is initially portrayed as if he can fight all the Germans but later he turns out to be a coward. Consequently, the director has shown egocentrism as Plunket uses every opportunity available to redeem himself at the expense of the others in the battle field. For a history student this movie shows the relation between the World War 1 and World War 11.
To begin with, let me discuss the characterization. From the movie, several characters have been used to relay various messages as the director of the movie has planned. Plunket for example, has been used to show a military officer who is seen to be very courageous and can be relied upon in times of war. However, this turns out to be not the case as at the time of war he acted cowardly and selfishly costing the lives of the other soldiers. Father Duffy on the other hand tries to make Plunket see things in a different way but Plunket turns out to be more of egocentric than for the betterment of the whole group.
In a point of view, it is clear how war can become more dangerous and costly to a country. The deaths of the young people while at war and the change of character of some of the soldiers is a great concern to any army commander. Therefore, the lives of the young brilliant soldiers are destroyed thus making their families suffer and affect their livelihood. The director shows the intensity of a country indulging its army in warfare.
Considering the plot of the movie, the director based the movie on the World War 1. It is based on this war that the director shows the irony where in the beginning the Americans shows that their intentions were not to be involved in the World War 11. However, there were many activities that indicated the Americans were preparing incase of any war in future. The movie scenes vary from battle field from America to France. The arrangements of scenes are well done and very directive with scary scenes. The battlefields scattered with dead bodies and all the set up is so vivid. Personification is well used in the conclusion of the movie as Father Duffy recites t...
