The Dual Nature of Photosynthesis and Respiration

Lab Report Instructions:

Write a 1-page lab report using the following sections of the scientific method:
Establish a better understanding of photosynthesis and cellular respiration, and apply the scientific method to solve (or understand) a problem. Photosynthesis and respiration are reactions that complement each other in the environment. They are essentially the same reactions, but they occur in reverse. During photosynthesis, carbon dioxide and water yield glucose and oxygen. Through the respiration process, glucose and oxygen yield carbon dioxide and water. They work well together because living organisms supply plants with carbon dioxide, which undergoes photosynthesis and produces glucose, and these plants and bacteria give out oxygen, which all living organisms need for respiration.
• Purpose
o State the purpose of the lab.
• Introduction
o This is an investigation of what is currently known about the question that is being asked. Use background information from credible references to write a short summary about the concepts in the lab. List and cite references in APA style.
• Hypothesis or Predicted Outcome
o A hypothesis is an educated guess. Based on what you have learned and written about in the introduction, state what you expect to be the results of the lab procedures.
• Methods
o Summarize the procedures that you used in the lab. The methods section should also state clearly how data (numbers) were collected during the lab; this will be reported in the results or outcome section.
• Results or Outcome
o In this section, provide any results or data that were generated while doing the lab procedure.
• Discussion and Analysis
o In this section, state clearly whether you obtained the expected results and if the outcome was as expected.
o Note: You can use the lab data to help you discuss the results and what you learned.
Provide references in APA format. This includes a reference list and in-text citations for references used in the introduction section.
Give your paper a title and number, and identify each section as specified above. Although the hypothesis will be a 1-sentence answer, the other sections will need to be paragraphs to adequately explain your experiment.

The dual nature of photosynthesis and respiration
Purpose
Examining the dual nature of photosynthesis and respiration is the main purpose of this report. It will help determine whether the quantity of light affects the plant cells capability to perform photosynthesis. Adequate sunlight is needed in order for photosynthesis to occur.
Introduction
Photosynthesis is the process by which plants and other organisms convert solar energy into chemical energy in the form of sugars. It creates sugar with the sun’s energy, which is combined with oxygen during cellular respiration to produce energy and carbon dioxide. There is a continuous relationship between photosynthesis and cellular respiration. During photosynthesis, glucose is produced from converted sunlight energy by plants. Scientifically, the more light the more, the faster rate of photosynthesis (Pearcy, 2012). Research shows that increased light intensity only increases the rate of photosynthesis to an optimum processing. For this reason, the relationship between photosynthesis and cellular respiration is non-linear.
Hypothesis or Predicted Outcome
The controlled experiment will test the hypothesis that the amount of light affects the rate of photosynthesis as ...
