Francis Crick, a Britain’s great scientist, was born on June 8, 1916 in Northampton, Northamptonshire in England and later died on July 28, 2004 at San Diego, California, U.S. The British biophysicist is best-known for his work in collaboration with James Watson, which led to the discovery of a DNA structure in 1953 (Crick, 2014). Crick’s discovery of the genetic modification was drawn on the work of Rosalind Franklin and Maurice Wilkins among others. The research proved to be of enormous significance to biomedical research, health and life in general. Such discovery in the late 1953 - earned Crick, Wilkins and Watson the Nobel Prize in medicine and physiology in 1962.
According to several scientists, Crick’s accomplishment became a cornerstone of genetics and was regarded as one of the most fundamental discoveries of 20th-century biology. Crick started his scientific career in physics, pursued his bachelor degree at the University College, London in 1937. At the time of the second World War, the Admiralty Research Laboratory employed Crick as a scientist. In that organization, he worked on the design of magnetic and acoustic mines. Crick made a transition from physics into biology in 1947, which he described as a life-changing moment. In retrospective, the British’s scientist originated from a humble background. The Medical Research Council (MRC) sponsored his early education at Cambridge (Harper, 2010). The above-mentioned organization discovered and appreciated the potential that Crick had by sponsoring him throughout higher education.
Upon accomplishing his studies in 1949, he joined the MRC Unit spearheaded by Max Perutz at that time, which subsequently became the MRC Laboratory of molecular biology. In that organization, Crick worked on the X-ray crystallography of proteins (Watson & Crick, 2008). He obtained His Ph.D. in 1954. Crick’s friendship with James Watson had a critical influence in his car...
