Management Careers Offered Within Each Industry (Lodging, and Food & Beverage)
The management careers in the lodging industry are significantly different from those in the food and beverage industry. While the management careers in these two industries may differ across regions, there are several careers that are present in most parts of the world. Following is a discussion of management careers in the lodging industry. The first career is that of a regional manager. A regional manager is a high-level position, and the holder of this position plays a key role in ensuring a harmonious correlation between lodgings in different regions. This position is present where a lodging business has several branches spread in different areas. This manager ensures that the property managers in all the branches are focused and driven to improve lodging services.
The second role in the lodging industry is that of the general manager. The general manager is the seniormost position in a standalone lodging facility. The roles of this manager include overseeing the implementation of set objectives, having appropriate staff deployment, and ensuring that guests are satisfied with the services offered by the lodging facility. The other management career in the lodging industry is that of assistant general manager. This manager mainly performs the duties of organizing events and operations at the front desk. They also ensure appropriate training and discipline of employees. Additionally, there is an office manager who is responsible for dealing with front desk operations to ensure that customers are satisfied. The careers in the food and beverage industry are way different. Despite this, the role of the general manager also appears in this industry. The general manager is responsible for overseeing all the operations of a restaurant to ensure proper functioning and maximization of profit (Davis et al., 2018). The other position is that of a restaurant manager. This manager is responsible for key roles that ensure the smooth daily of the restaurant. These roles include staff management, conducting advertisement/ publicity, and ensuring compliance with the provisions of the law. Additionally, they oversee the training and welfare of employees. This industry also has kitchen managers who ensure that foods are prepared to the highest possible standards and also perform other kitchen tasks such as inventory management. There may also be a catering manager who works in close conjunction with the kitchen manager to order various ingredients and ensure high standards are maintained in food preparation.
Differences between the General Management Positions in the Two Industries
General managers in these two industries are similar in that they oversee their respective facilities' general operations. The overall well-being and effectiveness of operations in either of the two industries greatly depend on the kind of management these managers provide. For instance, managers in both industries may carry out measures intended to motivate employees. Such a move would significantly improve the services offered in respective facilities. Addit...
