"Declining Majority of Online Adults Say the Internet Has Been Good for Society" is an article written by Olmstead and Smith. The authors state that Americans tend to concentrate on the positive impact of technology in their lives. The authors are investigating why the largest percentage of online adults believe that the internet has some positive effect on society. According to, there has been a shift in the social impact of technology in America. For example, people above 65 believe that the internet has a positive effect on society.
The authors used quantitative research methods to conduct the study. Interviews were conducted in January 2018. Some respondents were interviewed on a landline telephone, and others were interviewed on a cellphone. Additionally, a survey was conducted by the interviewers. The authors used statistical methods to interpret the data collected from the interviews. After sampling the data, the authors found out that one out of five Americans uses smartphones only.
