Pet Euthanasia

Essay Instructions:

Write an evaluative claim (one to two sentences) about a problem; this argument must be based on three reasons. For example, argue that something is harmful, unethical, failing, backfiring, etc. based on three reasons. Determine a set of criteria you will use to argue your claim. Your thesis statement will be tailored to establish that the topic is a problem.
X is (harmful/unjust/another adjective) because [insert three reasons based on your evaluation criteria: A, B, and C].
Be sure your topic is specific and debatable. For example, most people would agree that violence is harmful, but not everyone would agree that the death penalty is ethical. Claiming that violence is harmful to society is not only too broad a topic, but it is also not debatable. Thus, it would not make an effective claim. It would be much more manageable to argue that California's (or another state's) application of the death penalty is unjust or to argue that the appeals process for inmates on death row discriminates against (or disproportionately affects) a particular group. Because you will also need to introduce and respond to an opposing view in your essay, it's especially important that you choose a topic about which there is at least some disagreement.

Pet Euthanasia
The strengthening bond between humans and animals has made pets a significant part of some people’s lives. Every pet owner wishes their pet would live forever, but since death is inevitable, they would want to see their pets die naturally. When their pets fall ill and experience suffering, they are torn between choosing euthanasia to end suffering or pursuing more treatment options to extend the pet's life. Pet Euthanasia is the deliberate ending of a pet's life to relieve persistent pain and suffering. This practice has raised controversy over its morality, with proponents arguing that pet euthanasia is justified if the pet suffers and has no chance of recovering (Knesl et al., 2017). In such a case, euthanasia offers a way to end a pet’s pain. However, pet owners and veterans find this decision difficult, but it is essential to understand that euthanasia is the best action to take in the final stage of a pet’s life, according to pet euthanasia supporters. Opponents, however, perceive pet euthanasia as wrong as it denies the pet the right to live. This paper assumes that pet euthanasia is inappropriate and should be treated like human euthanasia.
One strong argument against euthanasia is that it devalues animal life. This practice weakens society’s respect for animal life. Pets deserve to live their lives free from exploitation and suffering (Knesl et al., 2017). They need a chance to live, fight for their lives, and feel comforted. Euthanasia denies them this chance. Pet owners should allow their pets to live until they die of natural causes. Most countries have laws to protect against animal cruelty. For example, this practice is illegal in the United States and may be considered a felony. The fact that countries protect animal life means that pets have a right to live, and euthanizing them would be wrong.
Pet euthanasia may also encourage cruelty in animals, resulting in their deliberate killing. For instance, an individual may find it appropriate to end a pet's life if the animal becomes a burden. That is to say, the pet owner encounters economic problems and cannot take care of the pet anymore, or the pet develops illnesses that are expensive to treat. Not all families can afford costly medication for their pets. This problem may encourage some owners to euthanize their pets because they cannot afford to pay for veterinary treatment (Knesl et al., 2017). These r...
