For our first discussion, I wanted to go back over some of the discussion points around identifying and separating 'good' research information from misinformation.

Facebook has faced some controversy regarding user information and privacy, as well as a rampant "fake news" problem.
I find this issue to be fascinating. Facebook isn't the only entity facing similar criticisms (YouTube with content regulation, Twitter with cyber-bullying). I should note that in the years since these articles have been written, Facebook has taken some steps to address this (most significantly, by removing the trending news section). However, there are still concerns with news and articles being distributed by specific groups, such as "Ontario Proud". What is the moral responsibility of these global companies? How do we hold these major tech companies accountable? What are ways we can mitigate this?

My question for you: we've already seen a few examples of great speeches and discussed the characteristics found strong public speakers. What are some examples (can be famous examples, or ones you have seen or delivered personally) of great presentations you have watched or witnessed? Why were these presentations effective? Did they rely on any visual material, handouts, slideshows, etc?

           Articles published over the recent years and targeting major tech companies such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, have highlighted the moral duty of protecting personal data and arresting the spread of misinformation to the public. While Facebook has taken radical measures since the German court ruled its use of personal information illegal, Big Tech companies should do more to safeguard users’ data and avoid fake news as both a civic and moral imperative. The companies should ensure the creation of accurate information and avoid users from benefiting from disinformation. Holding Tech giants responsible through legal proceedings and imposing fines would hold the companies accountable.
