Tell me about yourself
I began doing translation in 2021 when I left my role as a sales executive in (insert company name) to put into practice my skills in language translation. I have more than one year of experience in various fields, including language translation, information systems, bookkeeping, statutory compliance and taxation, which give me a comprehensive knowledge to handle translation tasks comprehensively. After graduating from Queens College in (please add the year, it is missing in the resume) and leaving my sales executive role in Nature republic, I took up a new role as a translator in New York Independent Assessor Maximus, where I currently work. My responsibilities here are reading given material and research industry-specific terminology to convert content from one language to another, proofreading the translated texts for grammar, spelling, and punctuation accuracy and ensuring translated content conveys original meaning and tone and using dictionaries, thesauruses and reference books to find the closest equivalents for terminology and words used. I also work part-time as a Bookkeeper and Purchase Officer at Daycare Center, a position I assumed in 2021.
What are some of your strengths?
I am an open-minded person who is always keen on details. My curiosity to learn new ideas and skills about my job is an added strength that I believe makes me an outstanding candidate.
What are your weaknesses?
I used to have issues with procrastination, although I always beat my deadlines. This made me work extra hours when the deadline approached. I learned that this was a big issue that was going to cost me my work on the day, and I decided to work towards rectifying it. I took time and project management lessons to learn how to manage time and approach more significant projects with a positive mind and energy. Currently, I ensure that I have a plan for all my tasks that make me finish them in good time without working extra hours.
Another weakness I have is hesitating to delegate tasks. I have confidence in my ability to the extent that I do not trust other people to work on my tasks. However, I took advice from my boss, who counselled me on the need to trust our colleagues and build them professionally. This helped me, and I currently trust my colleagues, although I have to personally supervise the work to ensure it meets my standards and that of the organization.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
I like to paint in my free time. I have painted portraits of some notable personalities and objects in my living room, including that of Barack Obama and Queen Elizabeth. I also like to volunteer in community and charity work and play basketball.
