Discrimination can be attributed to several factors. For instance, in the United States (U.S.), discrimination is directed towards minorities due to specific stereotypes that the American society places on individuals from minority groups. In other societies, discrimination can be as a result of wealth gaps or status. This essay seeks to discuss the major causes of discrimination and the effect this has on society.
In his article, Staples talks about his experiences as a Black man in the U.S. In particular, how his skin colour has affected how people perceive him. In the U.S., it is a known fact that there is extreme discrimination against black people. Among white supremacists, discrimination against this minority of African origin is due to the colour of their skin. This is the first major cause of discrimination, as seen in American society. White supremacists in America do not believe that black people should integrate with white people or that the former should live freely in the U.S. Hence, they work to promote discrimination against black people in the U.S. by supporting one political party and by instilling in other white people hatred against black people. Among white people in the U.S. who do not associate with white supremacy, black people are what society has made them.
