Hands-On Experience as Possible in Cybersecurity from my Internship
My goals from my first assignment are to take all the Certification exams needed by the New York Convention Center Authority, preferably by the end of the year, as well as gain as much hands-on experience as possible in cybersecurity from my internship. Having several certifications in cybersecurity will improve my chances of being absorbed by my interning program. My superiors have expressed some interest in hiring me after completing my degree and even stressed the importance of having credentials that augment my skills in protecting networks, systems, and programs from digital attacks. My short-term work experience has provided me with an action-oriented learning opportunity that I intend to capitalize on to gain the practical skills required by prospective employers. My internship experience has been largely positive: not only have I managed to cultivate useful networks but I have also acquired relevant experience by watching, learning, and participating in cybersecurity operations. A majority of the people I have met during my internship have been supportive and I am confident that they help advance my career as mentors and sources of both placements and references.
I have also managed to use the learning resources provided by the internship program to build up my resume: for instance, I have a better understanding of ServiceNow, Azure, and Microsoft Defender. However, I have learnt that on-the-job experience is very different from classroom experience and therefore two of the areas for improvement relate to applying my theoretical understanding to solving practical cybersecurity issues as well as improving my communication skills when interacting with supervisors ...
