How did real estate market segregation shape the history of the city of Detroit?
Starting in the 1950s, the real estate industry flourished to an extent and moved out of the period of unbending segregation. In the city of Detroit, Negro homeowners were considered bad for doing the work with and the whites required utmost protection from these lesser population. Despite all the restrictions, African Americans attempted to play their vital role in strengthening the real estate industry, but they, along with other minorities, had to face a lot of problems at every stage. Soon the working class moved to the territory of Southeast Michigan, and this was the reaction to voices the whites raised against the blacks. It eventually quickened the rural segregation and some real estate practices that anticipated the Black movement. People were given jobs on the basis of their race, class, gender and religious background, but with time, a sufficient number of urban inhabitants came forward and got involved in plans that could strengthen the economy of the country by the whole. However, their journey was not easy since most of them had found it difficult to earn a living while continuing their fight against any kind of discrimination in the city of Detroit. The real estate market segregated and the whites and the blacks began developing their own circles and communities.
