Aptitude tests have become a standard procedure in the assessment of potential employees in modern organizations. These tests assess a candidate's performance of crucial tasks, reaction to situations, and numerical skills. In essence, aptitude tests produce the best-fit candidates for the position in question (Mukherjee & Kumar, 2016). However, despite the reliance on these tests, ethical and legal issues should be considered.
The first ethical issue involves potential discrimination. The way the question is chosen, structured, and presented may favor some people and not others (Meinert, 2015). Some questions can also demean some sections of the population, making it hard for some people to go through the process. In essence, the tests can emphasize some aspects of candidates' personalities and under-evaluate, omit, or misplace other vital aspects (Greene & Weiner, 2017).
