Black Lives Matter
Introduction
The occupy wall street (OWS), and the Blacks Lives Matter (BLM) movements share similarities and have differences in their approach and agenda. The OWS was established in response to disaffections, by university and college students, on how the wealthy became richer at the poor's expense (Silverleib, 2011). The movement’s believers note that tax-funded projects, environment degradation, and the deplorable status of America and the world’s economy are concerns warranting demonstration. One of the influential figures was a 21-year old, unemployed young adult; known to the public as Vincent. Moreover, it signifies a break away from the old system and demand for reorientation in Wall Street. The video by the guardian (2012) presents people's dissatisfaction with how wall street is managed. They are young people and old individuals who believe the economy does not work for them. The video by Great Big Story (2020) illustrates some of the group’s activities. The demonstrations include young children and older people. They perform activities such as dances, matches, and kneeling during Floyd’s protests. Notably, both demonstrations were peaceful but the police used unwarranted force.
