Pros and Cons of Democracy
Most of the nations in the world are fast embracing democracy since it is considered the best system of governance. The citizens establish democratic governments through elections. The power is vested in the people and not in institutions such as the military, judiciary, or the state. Even though there are numerous advantages of democracy, there are disadvantages that the citizens should be aware of for a better understanding of how this system of governance operates.
One of the main advantages of democracy is that it encourages the active participation of the people in critical decision-making processes. Every eligible citizen has a say on how the government is being constituted and managed. It, therefore, provides an opportunity for individuals to voice their concerns.
Democracy also encourages freedom of speech in society. The best government systems are the ones that permit criticisms. Citizens are empowered by the constitution to speak up when the government is not performing to their expectations. They are not only allowed to speak up but raise their concerns by presenting petitions to the government institutions. The freedom of speech has made it possible for the relevant local and international authorities to unearth and address the atrocities committed by the governments.

In most cases, they find democratic countries to be politically stable compared to nations that embrace other forms of government systems.

It is a critical component in promoting transparency and ethical behavior in government offices and institutions (Czada 231). Democracy, therefore, makes it easier to detect corruption and stop it.
Democracy additionally enhances equitable and proper utilization and distribution of resources. The imbalances in the society where certain parts are endowed with resources while the rest is marginalized often hinder economic growth and stability. Addressing such concerns requires forums where meaningful discussions can take place with a focus to close the gaps. It provides stable platforms where the citizens through their elected leaders can meaningfully address the concerns and ensure equitable distribution of resources so that everyone benefits.
Democracy ensures that there is consistency in service delivery and performance. In democratic states, leaders are held accountable for their actions. Since they are often required to report to the public on the progress being made in the government, the leaders have no option but to deliver. It enhances good governance practices. An election is one of the critical elements...
