1. Do you agree with all of these? Why or why not? If not, what would you change? Which are most important? Be specific.
See policies below:
Secure IDs
Stronger border controls and visa enforcement
Adjustment of status for those who have earned it (the laws that were designed make other parties just as
responsible as immigrants themselves, such as businesses, Congress, enforcement, etc.)
Composition & size of future immigration determined in future by independent agency/board;
Trump recommends more focus on skill in order to receive visa, and only wants those immigrants that are not likely to fall under “public charge”, which his administration argues is immigrant dependence on government subsidies
Improved temporary worker programs
Protective laws enhanced and enforced – ranging from minimum wage to occupational safety & health
Trade, investment, & aid programs for sender nations – especially Mexico—help Mexico provide suitable employment for their own citizens

Refer to the readings and power points from Gender, Work, and Family.
2. Should the US keep its unpaid family leave policy (FMLA), or switch to a paid leave policy? Who should be covered by this family leave policy, and how long should the benefits last for those that use them?

Question 1
The government needs to implement secure IDs, stronger border control and visa enforcement, protective laws and offering assistance to the sender nations. Immigrants need to be issued with secure IDs. The move will facilitate witnesses or victims to crimes be able to report to the police without the fear that their immigration status will raise questions. Additionally, it is critical to have stronger border control (Alden, 2017). The U.S. needs to ensure that illegal immigrants like rug peddlers do not access cross over to the country. With stronger border controls and visa enforcement, illegal immigration would be minimized.
