Headstones
A headstone or gravestone or tombstone is described as a marker that is often placed over a grave. Traditionally, these stones have been used by Muslims, Christians as well as Jews and were ordinarily made of stone. They are often decorated and inscribed with the details of the deceased as per the specifications of the family or friends. The type, size, and design of the headstone are dependent on a family’s capacity to pay and thus the different types of gravestones in one graveyard. This article will assess and provide details (material used to make the stone, decorations on the stone, and the details regarding the decorations) of three headstones.
Headstone 1
This headstone is dated July 1919 and is the oldest in a group of seven headstones that are in a triangular shape. Five of the headstones share a surname apart from two which are dated February 2000 and April 1994. Since time immemorial, wealthy families have been renting their spaces that are only used for the burial of their relatives and this particular triangular shaped area is typical of such. The arrangement of the stones is also suggestive, and it is no coincidence that the oldest headstone is located at the extreme apex of the space.
The headstone is made of concrete, and it also has inscriptions that provide details of the deceased. Messages of love can still be seen on the stone as well as the deceased’s strengths and vision of a peaceful world. The headstone also has a vague inscription of a flower that is not detailed enough for one to identify the flower.
