Hoodfar, in her article 'A Veil in Their Minds and On Our Heads, for a different perspective on veiling', discusses veiling and its different meanings in society. The veil in the article is viewed to show respect and high status in society. Such indicated that women are subject to men and point to female gender discrimination. The article discusses the importance of unveiling during the colonial periods in achievement like women and girls unveiled to pursue education. The veil was approved for use by Muslim women by foreigners to symbolize Muslim societies. In the article relates veiling to the abuse of women in colonial times. Up to date, Muslim women are considered a minority.
The veil is a protective and identity-forming piece of clothing showing high status. This is further explained that when a Muslim woman unveils in front of a man who is not her kin, then the man is considered lower-class. The unveiling, in this case, shows that the person is not a man like the women in the Tobacco movement who threatened to remove their veils and fight in place of the men hence disregarding them (Hoodfar, 430). It identifies Muslim women since its approval whereby the Muslim culture forbids some parts of their body to be seen by the public like their hair. The Muslim religion respect veiling mostly during worship, and young ladies face rectrictions against unveiling. Unveiling occurs only in special circumstances and is highly unacceptable for Muslim women. The veil in the discussion is also an important tool by the Muslims to symbolize Prophet's wives, daughters, and women of believers, which explains the deep religion of the Muslims.
