In the Freudian motivation theory, our hidden desires and motives are deemed to shape how we behave. The theory was developed by Sigmund Freud, who was among the major figures in psychoanalysis. The Freudian concept has been implemented in various disciplines, including business management in marketing and sales. In this context, the theory helps to understand an individual's motivations in decision-making, such as when purchasing a particular product or service (Niaz et al. 36). The conceptualization emerging in the Freudian concept can be used to understand what motivates characters to achieve particular goals or take certain actions in a story.
The Shawshank Redemption is a 1994 film directed by Frank Darabont. The movie is based on the novel Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption by Steven King. The film stars Tim Robbins as Andy Dufresne and Morgan Freeman as Ellis Boyd Redding (Red). They are convicts in Shawshank, a prison in New England (Newman 239). Andy is convicted of the murder of his wife and her lover. He befriends Red, who was able to acquire illegal items from outside the prison. The storyline follows Andy's prison life, escape, and eventual reunion with Red as a free man. I found the film to be interesting, intriguing, and entertaining.
The thought-provoking suspense that builds up throughout the film and the disguised revelations draw the viewer to the various themes addressed by the characters and situations they find themselves. The narration offered by Red helps the audience to establish a relationship with the prisoners and understand their characteristics.
