Economic globalization is the rising interdependence of the world economies resulting from increased cross-border trade of goods and services, rapid and broad spread of technologies, and flow of capital in the global market (Shangquan, 2000). Currently, rapid technological advancement has significantly contributed to the increase of financial flow in different parts of the globe. The paper compares and contrasts the views of economic globalization as presented by Pietra Rivoli and William Adler.
Pietra Rivoli is a professor of business at Georgetown University and the author of the book “The Travels of a T-Shirt in the Global Economy.” Rivoli views economic globalization as something that has opened up numerous countries. She traced the movement of her t-shirt in Texas, Washington, China, and Tanzania (University of California Television, 2008). Rivoli made it clear that some markets, such as China and Washington, are difficult to understand in terms of the global economy. However, the most significant thing that she observed is that some nations make regulations to protect themselves in the global economy. In that light, when some individuals in specific countries are benefiting maximally from economic globalization, others are being exploited.
