The coronavirus pandemic continues to impact individuals, businesses, and economies worldwide with its devastating effects. The virus that broke out in Wuhan, China, in December 2019 has since spread globally and rapidly like wildfire. It is estimated there have been about 65 million coronavirus cases, with more than 1.5 million people succumbing to the disease (Worldometers.info n.p). In all this gloom, 45 million people have fought and recovered from the disease and, as such, currently leaves just over 18 million active cases (Worldometers.info n.p). To curb the spread of the virus, governments globally have instituted stringent measures, including lockdowns and tough restrictions on movement. There is also wide sensitization on the washing of hands and social distancing. Businesses have also not been left out in the fight against the coronavirus that threatens not only their productivities but also their very existence. One notable big tech company is Google that has been at the forefront of spearheading effective solutions to support its business interests and help those affected. Google is one of the biggest tech companies in the world that continues to transform various sectors of the economy with brilliant technological innovations. The company has, since its inception, keeping true to its mission, which is to outperform itself in efforts of solving humanity's biggest challenges. It has, over the years, combined not just funding and innovation but also technical expertise to assist underserved communities and offer opportunities for everyone. It is on this breadth that the company has taken the mantle in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic that continues to be a thorn in the flesh of many people, firms, and economies globally. Since the WHO announced coronavirus as a global pandemic, Google has committed and allocated over $100 million (Google.org n.p). It has offered its technical expertise in key areas of the economy and which will have the most impact. These areas are as discussed below.
Health and Science: Google has been instrumental and in the frontline in helping communities globally battle the coronavirus. The company is one of the key donors of the Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund and the Center for Disease Philanthropy.
