Acrobatique by John Keene
Acrobatique by John Keene starts and closes with a single vertical line of phrase. The primary themes in the story include freedom, balance, and control. Balance is portrayed by the African American acrobat, Miss La La, and Olga Kaira at the Cirque Fernando. The acrobats balance themselves on a rope, which is the reason why the author uses a vertical sentence at the beginning and end. Freedom and control help the acrobats to perform tricks that leave the audience mouth agape.
One of the most significant quotes is “eyes firm as beads of beryl, amazement streaming out of them that I am hovering above” (Keene 242).
