A Comparison and Contrast of Tom and Gatsby
Jay Gatsby and Tom Buchanan are two of the most prominent characters in the book The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The plot is centered on the relationship Gatsby and Tom has with Daisy Buchanan. They are different in terms of how they love daisy, but they seem to have similarities because they both want Daisy. The similarities and differences these 2 have with each other are almost equal and that is what will be discussed here.
The first obvious thing about these 2 is their utilization of people in the entire book. For instance, Gatsby is only interacting with Nick because he is using him. His desire to find Daisy again was so great, but he does not anyone who knows her, except Nick. When Gatsby gained knowledge about this, he made Nick a good friend in order to get information about her. Gatsby asked Nick to invite Daisy for tea and only did that so that Tom would let go of her, and their meeting will be justified. When Daisy arrived at Nick’s house, all of Gatsby’s attention is on Daisy and Nick is completely ignored as if he did not exist.
