The Flivver King Analysis
Sinclair’s novel entitled The Flivver King narrates the life of one of the wealthiest persons on the planet back in the days – Henry Ford. Accordingly, an analysis of the novel would show that even though both the main character (Henry Ford) and the fictional character (Abner Shutt) experienced gains and losses, the latter gained more in the end because his acts have led to the betterment of society and the promotion of rights of the workers.
On the one hand, Henry ford’s life has been characterized by ups and downs, which led him to become who he is. Accordingly, some of Ford’s gains in the novel include his wealth and contribution to management and science. In the novel, it could be seen that Ford came from an immigrant family. Since they merely migrated to the United States, he and his family do not have much, and Ford had to work to sustain himself. Nonetheless, after being hired by Westinghouse, he started working in his workshop, thereby leading to the development of his steam-powered car. In line with the question at hand, it could be seen that his development and creation of the steam car is the main reason for this enormous wealth. Because of the number of clients who wanted to buy a wagon that is ‘not powered by a horse,’ Ford acquired resources that made him a very wealthy capitalist.
