The Odyssey by Homer is an influential and brilliantly written book read over time. It was composed in the Ancient Greek time in which men played the most important roles, as a character and in real life, while women were thought to be mediocre and given demeaning roles to please men. However, the Odyssey offers women power and control and exalts them to represent wisdom, insight, and equal chances as men.
Notably, among the women in Odyssey, Athena and Penelope are the most significant ladies who shape the entire course of the book. Athena, the goddess of wisdom and war, uses her role to assist Odysseus. She pleads with Zeus, her father, to release Odysseus, and he agrees (Homer, and Samuel).
