This evaluation examines an article from The Guardian "Republicans Dig in and Prepare to Sink Democrats’ Voting Rights Bill (2021)," that was written by a political correspondent, Lowell Hugo. The article examines the contentious issue of the S1 bill being forwarded by the Democrats in the senate. S1 bill requires that all states in the United States should allow eligible voters to register during the day of the federal election. The bill allows American voters to be allowed to register as voters even during the early hours of voting. This means that the federal and state governments must promote early and timely access to voter registration including the aged and people with disabilities (Norris et al. 2). The main argument in the article is the abolition of this bill by the republicans. According to the author, the republicans are against this bill, and they are ready to employ the necessary political machinery to shoot down the bill
This article is a reflection of one of the most contentious issues of voting rights in the United States of America. The debate over changes in voting rights is a new twist that sets the center stage over a bitter political rivalry of future voting rights in America since colonial times. Even with the democrats showing political will to change and adopt some of the recommendations of republicans into the bill, the Republicans maintain that even inclusion of necessary changes will not convince them to pass the voting bill.
