The COVID-19 pandemic has had various effects on individuals around the world. The United States is one of the countries that has been primarily affected by the pandemic. Factors such as social distancing and wearing masks have become the new normal in the country. Businesses are now making it mandatory to work from home to limit physical contact among the employees, thus reduce the spread of the disease. Some of these changes, such as social distancing, may become the new normal in the United States of America to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other diseases in the future. Therefore, individuals in the United States of America might need to reinvent themselves and adopt some changes permanently as this is the new normal.
One of the critical changes that the US has adopted that will need to be maintained is social distancing. Social distancing has been in the form of adopting methods such as avoiding physical contact by working from home. For example, various law firms carry out court proceedings meetings with their clients via online tools such as Zoom and Google Meet. In his article, Andrew Sullivan suggests methods that could prevent further and future spread of diseases such as COVID-19. He writes, “Only a much more profound reorientation of humankind will lower the odds: moving out of cities, curtailing global travel, ending carbon energy, mask-wearing in public as a permanent feature of our lives”. Sullivan’s concept is supported by the fact that the human population has been increasing over time. Since many people have been moving to the urban areas searching for employment and a better lifestyle, physical contact rates have increased.
