Nature in Frankenstein
In Shelly's Frankenstein, there are many themes explored, ranging from revenge, depression, knowledge, rejection of the importance of friendship. Depending on what angle one looks at the text there are many themes to be deduced from the novel. In the novel, the factor of nature plays a big role in restoring different moods of the characters and enriching the writers' method of capturing vengeance through mistreating the same. Shelley uses nature as a metaphor by associating human feeling and nature. Having been written in the Romantic period, Frankenstein continuous to show how nature was a powerful factor during the period. Nature was the source of happiness, calmness, could heal and almost everything that the society depicted in the novel used was from nature.
Nature is observed to bring calmness to victor and he quotes "the same lulling sounds acted as a lullaby to my to keen sensation: when I placed my head upon my pillow, sleep crept over me; I felt it as it came, and blessed the giver of oblivion " (Mary et al. 79). Victor is described to use nature as his personal therapy when he is going through tough times or is stressed. For example, he quotes above after producing monster and since he was too tired and had no connection with the society. combination of the two made him sick and was in dire need of rest. He observes that nature calms him down and enables him to sleep as it is like a lullaby to his sensation. When Victors quotes "Look at that … group of laborers coming from among their vines and that village halfhid in the recess of the mountain."(Frankenstein 190). It also shows Victor got peace and calmness from nature.
