We need to talk about at least characters. Needs to talk about how the characters used their argument with the 3, and did their style of argument change and how? Was their argument effective and how so? Needs to show their logic, ethos, and pathos if their is? Last is the theme. Arguments in the movie Mr. Hollands Opus
The movie Mr. Holland’s Opus focuses on Glenn Holland who became a high-school music teacher, became closer to students, but farther apart from his wife Iris and Cole their deaf son. Logos is using evidence to appeal to the reason and intelligence of the audience. Ethos relates to arguments based on authority and honesty of the speaker or writer, their credibility and relationship with the audience. Pathos is an emotional argument that can also target changing opinion and utilizes empathy. The film’s themes are that creative thinking, music, and performing arts supports student learning and a strong father-child relationship is essential for growth and avoiding loss. Glenn Holland, Iris Holland and Gene Wolters use different persuasive strategies to influence others on the importance of music teaching, father-son relationship and the need to follow school curriculum respectively.
Glenn Holland, a music composer, sought and got a teaching job at John F. Kennedy music in 1964, and while the school principal and the other teachers do not appreciate the performing arts there was increased support for music education over time. Holland appealed to authority as he was music composer, but this did not endear him to the teachers or parents concerned that the level of education had deteriorated. Over time, Holland used pathos arguing that he would take his children to private school because the public school system had deteriorated, but he was an active teacher supporting changes. Holland went from criticizing the school’s art program, which was slowly defunded to convincing the stakeholders to support his attempts to revive music, by showing that there was a positive influence on the students’ learning. ...
