I found the excerpt "The Motion Picture Production Code” (Published 31 March 1930) quite interesting in that until the advent of sound on the motion-picture screen. There were no considerations of moral content or even basic good taste in terms of theme and situation. The Motion Picture Production Code is a set of industry guidelines for censorship of all taking motion picture screen content. It outlines five principles that ought to guide theatrical motion picture producers with various applications, including crimes against the law, sex, vulgarity, obscenity, dances, profanity, religion, national feelings, titles, and repellant subjects. I had not thought of this salient fact before, and I, therefore, appreciated the decision by the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America to censor inappropriate offerings. However, I do not think that most of the principles underlying the code or even their particular applications are wholly observed in today's movie industry. Everything is considered entertainment nowadays, and I believe revisiting the codes outlined in the excerpt could help rid the tastelessness in today's media.
