Morality
Morality refers to principles that distinguish between right and wrong (Hertz et al., 129). It is personal and cultural values, codes of conduct that guide good behavior. These are ethics that ensure people live in harmony and peace. Society is safe because people hold on to good morals. Good morals, therefore, mean that security is guaranteed, the relationship between people is good, and the society is living at peace. People choose to be moral, but in most cases, the societal laws guide people to behave morally because of the harsh consequences that follow immorality. However, there are several reasons why other people maintain morality, while others abandon.
Other people choose to be moral because they fear the consequences of immorality. Different countries have laws that enforce morality. The constitution defines the kind of punishment that a person meets if they act immoral (Alnajm, 97). For example, if a person engages in a robbery with violence, the constitution defines a jail term or a fine that ensure the suspect suffers some correctional pain. The small societal unit has rules that enforce morality (Hertz et al., 136). When a person steals, the community might decide to excommunicate the person, forcing them to behave morally. The thought of such correctional punishments forces a person to maintain morality.
People maintain morality, depending on how they were brought up. Different families and societies bring up children in different ways, depending on the level of morality.
