Freedom is like a double edge sword. It conceives both positive and negative results. In the positive outlook, if a man obtains freedom, his actions would not be limited, and his words would not be oppressed. However, on the other hand, freedom can also cause isolation and alienation (Fromm). The story titled "This Morning, This Evening, So Soon" showed a black American's struggle in pursuing his freedom to music. It showed that the main character did have freedom in France after gaining fame and acceptance from his environment. On the other hand, he cannot escape his racism experience that greatly affected his identity (Baldwin). This shows that nightmares can continue to hunt people even if they had already achieved a dream catcher of their own.

Plot
The story started with the heated argument between the narrator and his young son, Paul, in which his wife, Harriet, immediately stopped. The night before they travel back to New York, they decided to plan a night out with the narrator's sister and his film director, Vidal. It was when they were outside when the narrator started to reminisce about the day he fell in love with Harriet, which continued back from after his mother died and his work experiences as a black American in New York. In the present, both the narrator and Vidal continued their night out and caught a group of black American students having fun with music. The narrator then joined the fun and was be able to encounter his North African friend. In the end, a conflict arose ...
