Growth as a Musician Throughout the Semester
At the beginning of the semester, the underlying goal was to improve through chorus classes. In order to achieve this, some of the objectives of the class were to develop, extend, and refine my singing skills through performance, increase my musical understanding and knowledge of literature, terms, and historical background, develop and appreciate music as a form of art through listening and performance, and enhance interpersonal communication through music. My responsibility as a learner was cognitive knowledge development, development and refinement of skills, concert participation, daily rehearsals, and classroom etiquette. These responsibilities were aimed at creating a conducive learning environment for myself and other students.
Throughout the semester, I strived to develop solid vocal techniques within a choral setting, worked on performance etiquette, developed and refined my music reading skills and expression, and explored a variety of choral pieces from different cultural backgrounds and languages. A critical aspect that I enjoyed the most is the connection of culturally diverse choral with the history of different communities and cultures. Understanding this aspect enhances performance because it provides the choral context and the intended meaning. These perceptions are vital in shaping performance areas such as facial expressions and postures.
