Learning about mindset is very important in co-op classes. An individual has his or her mindset that consciously or subconsciously tries to judge a situation before acting on it. It is based on our daily beliefs, which with time makes us act in a given line. This mindset is divided into two as illustrated by Carol Dweck in her book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success (2008); Fixed mindset and growth mindset (Dweck 24).
In a fixed mindset, intelligence is static. This means that an individual consequently gets a desire to look smart and avoid challenges. Obstacles discourage him or her hence ending up giving up easily. We see all efforts as useless and reject any critic that might help. We feel threatened by the success of other people around us. This, in the long run, leads a person to achieve bellow his or her maximum potential (Dweck 25).
A growth mindset, on the other hand, has an intelligence that can be developed over time. Individuals have a desire to learn more and hence willingness to embrace challenges. The individual perseveres through every challenge he or she faces. This individual considers the input efforts as the way to success and takes into consideration all the critics he or she encounters. He or she finally achieve his or her maximum because he or she finds the success of others as a motivation for achieving his or her goals (Dweck 25).
