The book Sapogonia by Anna Castillo highlights complex issues of racial discriminating among the mixed culture. This book addresses issues concerning identity and race of people with mixed heritages through the struggle of Madrigal. Sapogonia is a metaphorical homeland of the mestizos. The book illustrates how the contending blood within a body can reject peaceful resolutions. Thousands of years before the Europeans can in America, the indigenous people of America flourished a lot because there was no discrimination. In the article, the author uses Maximo Madrigal, who is an expatriate of Sapogonia, to show the struggles associated with these race and identity issues. Through her writing, the author has managed to create narratives associated with transnational existence that pays attention to the material influence it plays. Furthermore, it gives rise to hemispheric Latino identity against Maximo Madrigal (Castillo 6). Sapogonia is a mythological and geographical birthplace of Maximo Madrigal as well as a metaphor for mestizaje-people of mixed European/native or South American blood (Castillo 10).
