Adversity is something that people are guaranteed to encounter at one point in their lives, and most often, there is no way of going around it. Every individual is prone to experiencing different challenges that may include stresses and frustrations, among others. Additionally, some individuals would be attempting to avoid reality after exposure to signs of adversity; however, remaining focused and dealing with the current circumstances and the harsh reality would help promote personal growth and development. Adversity may facilitate personal growth by helping one change to attitudes and focusing on what can be controlled. It helps one learn and use that knowledge to improve the future and challenges one to attempt the unimaginable and satisfying activities.
Facing adversity helps one to change the attitude and focus on what can be controlled, thus encouraging commitment to change the current situation. Additionally, the experiences that people face after misfortunes play a considerable role in promoting persistence and perseverance, which are crucial in overcoming other challenges in the future. Besides, people’s experiences after encountering problems may also encourage them to make changes that are ideal in improving the current situation. For instance, Bridget Phetasy explains that despite the difficulties she faced after developing a substance dependence problem and getting rehabilitated, she decided to move one (Phetasy). Besides, she met successes, failures, and other struggles; she traveled the world, married and divorced, established a company, and suffered bankruptcy. Phetasy maintains that the essential thing that one can think about where to go after suffering and misfortunes.
