Introduction
Computers, movies, radio, mobile phones and video games have become an essential ingredient of everyone’s life. Electronic media can have either a negative or positive impact on the behavioral development of both children and adults (Pinker, 2010). It has been accepted by experts all round the world that media has a direct influence on one’s health which may include alcohol use, obesity, harmful sexual activities and violence (Curran and Hesmondhalgh, 2019). On the other hand media can also have a positive influence on the individual’s life as it provides informational and scientific facts which can benefit students. The local communities need to take appropriate measures for ensuring that the people adopt the positive traits of electronic media. The understanding about the components which are affecting one’s life is essential. The excessive use of electronic media has a negative impact on the health of children and adults.
Effects of Electronic Media
Mass media has a long-lasting and harmful impact on the mental attitude of and health of teenagers who fail to distinguish between reality and fantasy. It is of significance importance among adolescents that are incapable of making informed decisions based on the present situation. Moreover, the longer they spent time with digital media it decreases the duration of their daily physical activities, family time and community service (Perse and Lambe, 2016). In my opinion, excessive use of electronic media has a negative impact on the emotional intelligence and health behaviors of children. The individuals utilizing their major portion of time in technology and mass media are likely to get isolated from family relationships. In addition, it creates stress, anxiety and aggressive behavior among the individuals which is bad for their personal health.
Frequent exposure to violence content develops anger among adults and teenagers. In such a situation parents need to play an active role in providing guidance to their children about the negative effects of media. According to media reports, the American children that are exposed to excessive violence and sexual content perform poorly in schools. Furthermore, these children are more likely to attempt suicide or get involved in crimes due to the stress caused by violent content (Padilla-Walker, Coyne and Collier, 2016). The crime-based movies and brutal video games watched by adolescents affect their cognitive abilities which often results in developing an unbalanced behavior among them (Wortham, 2014).
Technology for People (Personal Point of View)
In my personal viewpoint, violent, aggressive and obscene material shown on local media affects the behaviors and thinking the ability of children. The frequent exposure of children to violence and terrorist movies develops anger, anxiety and stress among them. In my opinion, parents should play an active role in developing healthy habits among their children.
