Equal rights and protections are very important today. Historically, women are believed to be the most disadvantaged group. However, it is also imperative to recognize that women are not the only people who experience double standards. The presence of double standards frequently occurs in the professional and personal lives of people. It is also crucial to understand that individuals can make mistakes and be punished unequally because some will escape punishment. When people are young, they are socially accepted behaviors and values for females and males. These behaviors are based on gender stereotypes. For example, women are supposed to take care of domestic duties while men are expected to do technical jobs. Double standards occur because of gender biases. Because of these beliefs about how individuals belong to distinct genders should behave and what is expected of them, how people move through their personal and professional spheres is affected significantly. A double standard is a principle that is applied unequally to different groups. Double standards are caused by overgeneralized beliefs held by people and stereotypes. Additionally, double standard gender roles are social constructs used to define the kind of behaviors acceptable for both men and women (Fortune 1).
