Use the information you gained from Chapters 19 and 20 in Economic Hit Man to continue the discussion about Iran. What new things did you learn? Perkins narrative is up close and personal, rather than distant and dry. How do his personal impressions help to bring history alive?
Perkins also pulls away the veil of secrecy on some very diabolical aspects of modern so-called "capitalism," which is really just victimization of the ultra-rich upon the poor. How can the culture of the economic hit man come home to roost? Has it already done so? In his later books, Perkins points to banker bailouts, quantitative easing, and the Goldman Sachs technique of creating and then milking "bubbles" (such as the mortgage crisis of 2008/2009) in order to fleece Americans of their hard earned tax dollars.
Perkins does say that when the exploits of economic hit men and CIA jackals (literal "hit men" with high tech poisons, guns, bombs, etc.) fail, then war is used as a pretext, both for regime change, and for generating even more money for the super rich. How would a war with Iran and other allied Middle Eastern countries affect Americans' lives at home? Can we afford a world war? Before you say, "Hey, there's no way that a bunch of middle eastern countries could possibly start a world war, then you might pause to remember that Germany did that in 1939. And that was after the country had been bankrupted due to being unable to pay its WWI debts.

In chapter nineteen, Perkins went to Tehran, Iran, where he meets Yamin and other people believed to have critical information that the government of the United States of America (USA) wanted. I have learned that some people working for the government do not reveal their real names for security reasons. “The man inside has a Ph.D. from one of your most prestigious universities” (Perkins 136). Here, the person being referred to is Doc. I have also learned that the state has double agents who it sends to various countries such as Iran to obtain secrets, which are vital in retaining a forced good relationship. Consequently, Perkins is the man between the two worlds; Iran and the USA.
Perkins’ impressions enable his confessions to be lively since the reader follows him to uncover more mysteries. Specifically, through the author being an insider, one understands various things that would be hard to know as an outsider. The...
