The three stories provide a fascinating story about a young girl, her mother, and her grandmother. However, the three versions of the story offer a twisted narrative that changes the tale. They compare and contrast in different measures, affecting the focus of each tale.
The three stories present a similar narrative style. It mixes reported and direct quotes from the story characters. First, a conversation between the girl and the wolf, the girl and her mother, and her grandmother. The grandmother's illness in the story is also consistent in all three versions. Her sickness is the base of the story because it propels the girl's mother to send her daughter to visit the grandmother with some cake. In Delarue's story, the narrator addresses the girl character as "girl" (Delarue) while the Grimm brother refers to her as "Little Red Cap" (Grimm). Charles Perrault calls the girl "Little Red Riding Hood" (Perrault). Despite these different names, the stories have a similar moral lesson which teaches the readers to be careful and always follow instructions because not following them may lead to disaster.
However, the plots of the three stories differ significantly, changing the focus of the storylines. Paul Delarue's edition, The Story of Grandmother, does not refer to the girl using her name. This makes the story's impact light because it could be any girl. This is different from the edition of the story presented by The Grimm brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, and Charles Perrault's edition, whose narrators address the girl with her name. This makes the story more believable.
In Delarue's edition, the girl meets the wolf on her way to her grandmother. It informs the wolf about the ailing grandmother, but the wolf tricks her and goes to the grandmother's house without informing the girl. It takes the ...
