4-H is a group of youths all over the world whose mission is “engaging the youths to reach their fullest potential while advancing the field of youth development.” It has been named 4-H because of the occurrence of letter H four times in the organization’s initial motto “head, heart, hands and health.” The organization focuses on four development areas of an individual. The motto of the organization is “To make the best better” but it goes by the slogan “Learn to do by doing.” Across the world, 4-H organizations are present in more than 45 countries. However, the administration of the organizations vary across these countries. 4-H organization runs various programs but the common one is the Livestock Progam that provides a pathway for the youths to become more responsible by participating livestock projects.
Despite the fact that many youths have benefited from participating in this program, their participation has been question especially the parents on how they will benefit from it. That is understandable, the parents are always concerned and are curious to know how their children will benefit from participating in any program. Participation of 4-H Livestock Project builds character, teaches sportsmanship, imparts agricultural knowledge and creates discipline in the youths.
The greatest benefit and value of participating in 4-H’s Livestock Program is that it provides an opportunity for the youths to develop confidence by taking care of something that depends on them. There are some kids who fear getting...
